Museum security guard Larry Daley discovers that the mysterious magical source that brings the museum's inhabitants to life is fading, and he must figure out how and why his friends exist before it's too late.

Larry Daley is a divorced father who can't seem to keep a job for more than a week. As a last resort, Larry applies for a job as a night shift security guard at the American Museum of Natural History. However, a seemingly easy job turns out to be an adventure when he finds that an ancient curse causes the "inhabitants" of the museum to come to life at night.

When mysterious spacecraft touch down around the world, a team, including linguist Louise Banks, is brought together to investigate. As mankind teeters on the verge of global war, Banks and the team race against time for answers, and to find them, she will take a chance that could threaten her life, and quite possibly humanity.

A bank teller, who discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game, decides to become the hero of his own story, one he rewrites himself. Now in a world where there are no limits, he is determined to be the guy who saves his world his way, before it is too late.

It houses the world's largest museum complex with more than 136 million items in its collections.
